POMONA, Calif. (KABC) -- A man was hoisted from a 15-foot construction hole during a precarious rescue operation in the sweltering heat in Pomona on Wednesday afternoon.

The man somehow fell into the 15-foot construction hole. The incident was first reported shortly after 1 p.m. in the area of Gillette Road and Fairplex Drive.

AIR7 flew over the scene, where one rescuer had been lowered into the hole to help secure the man. Other rescuers were seen leaning over the edge, looking down into the hole. At one point, Los Angeles Fire Department crews lowered an oxygen tank down to the man.

Shortly before 3:30 p.m., the man was hoisted out of the hole. Video shows him being placed on a stretcher and loaded into an ambulance.

The man was being transported to Pomona Valley Hospital. His condition was unknown. It's also unclear how he fell in the construction zone to begin with.
