Deputies shoot, kill man they say was armed during Bellflower confrontation

BELLFLOWER, Calif. (KABC) -- A man who authorities said was armed was shot and killed by Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies following a confrontation in a Bellflower neighborhood Friday night.

Deputies responded just after 9 p.m. to the 10400 block of Artesia Boulevard following a report regarding an assault with a deadly weapon suspect, according to sheriff's officials.

At some point during the encounter, deputies opened fire on the suspect. The man was shot and taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

No additional information about the circumstances leading up to the confrontation was immediately available.

Aerial footage from AIR7 showed a blood-soaked sidewalk and a detective shining a flashlight on a handgun lying on the ground. The footage also captured multiple evidence markers and bullet casings scattered nearby.



No deputies were injured in the incident. An investigation is ongoing.
