The incident unfolded around 1 a.m. at an apartment complex near Sixth Street and Daisy Avenue. Initial reports of an armed man barricaded inside the complex prompted a large response from the Long Beach Police Department's SWAT team.
Residents in the area were evacuated from their homes, but were allowed to go back after the standoff ended and the suspect was taken into custody.
"I heard a flash bang, it sounded like a bomb went off," said Monsor Middleton, who lives in the area. "They really just caught me off guard, they breached this building that was across the street. It was very tense."
The domestic violence victim was treated on scene, but details on their condition were not available.
