MOORPARK, Calif. (KABC) -- The SR-118 in the Moorpark area was shut down for hours due to downed power lines and trees on Monday.

The California Highway Patrol initially closed in both directions between Balcom Canyon and Grimes Canyon roads. In a later update, officials said the eastbound closure was pushed back to Somis Road for better access to US-101.

The roadway full reopened around 9 p.m. -- over eight hours after the initial closure.

The Santa Ana winds were violent and destructive on Monday, causing trees to fall in cities across Southern California.

The National Weather Service forecasted 25-to-40 mph winds, gusting up to 60 mph in SoCal, including parts of the San Gabriel and Santa Monica mountains.
