Driver gets on top of pickup truck after chase ends with crash into South LA apartment building

SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A chase from Hollywood to South Los Angeles came to a dramatic end on Tuesday night when the suspect jumped a curb and slammed into the side of a neighborhood apartment complex.

The crash happened at 45th Street and Figueroa Street shortly before 10:30 p.m.

Residents watched it all unfold from their apartment windows and balconies.

AIR7 flew above the scene, where the driver refused to exit the pickup truck for a time before he eventually squeezed out of the passenger side window. He then got on top of the cab of the truck and began waving his arms.

A few moments later, he jumped into the bed of the pickup truck and then down to the sidewalk, where he was quickly swarmed by officers and arrested.



Before the chase ended in a crash, the driver managed to dodge spike strips placed by law enforcement. The suspect was initially wanted for allegedly making criminal threats.
