The Drive Home VII: Route 66 commemorative event is a cross-country celebration in honor of a "century of adventure."
Beginning Saturday in Santa Monica, nine vintage, Route 66-inspired vehicles will drive the full length of Route 66. Nine days later, on Jan. 12, they are scheduled to arrive in Chicago.
After the cross-country trip, the vehicles will continue on to Detroit, where they will be on display at the Detroit Auto Show beginning Jan. 14.
American Automotive Trust encourages drivers to join the nine vehicles for as much or as little of the route as they'd like. The route includes stops in Barstow, California; Albuquerque, New Mexico; Amarillo, Texas; Springfield, Illinois and more.
"The Drive Home VII: Route 66 - A Century of Adventure will celebrate more than just the historic Route itself. The Drive will visit the small towns and frequent the motels, restaurants and shops which continue to operate today in spite of the fact that the major highways bypass them," said David Madeira, CEO of the Trust.
