Malibu driveway collapses into sinkhole amid coastal erosion

MALIBU, Calif. (KABC) -- A driveway to a home in Malibu collapsed into a sinkhole Tuesday morning amid coastal erosion, causing a gas main rupture.

Los Angeles County Fire Department crews responded to a vacant home in the 31600 block of Sea Level Drive East, neat Point Lechuza, around 5:45 a.m.

The fire department told Eyewitness News that erosion underneath the home broke a water line and a gas line. The Southern California Gas Company has since shut off the gas.

AIR7 captured crews beneath the driveway structure filling buckets with sand to protect neighboring homes from erosion.

This is a developing story. This article will continue to be updated as more information becomes available.
