California Highway Patrol were called to the eastbound freeway at the Roxford Street exit at 1:48 a.m. Friday where initially officers reported a vehicle was blocking the middle lanes of the freeway. When they arrived, first responders found the multi-vehicle crash, a victim trapped inside one of the big rigs and a big rig hanging over the freeway's embankment, a CHP officer and Los Angeles Fire Department told City News Service.
The victim was freed from the big rig by Los Angeles Fire Department personnel and taken to a hospital in critical condition.
Two additional victims were reported to be in fair condition and taken to a hospital, said LAFD spokesman Jamie Stewart. Approximately 54 fire personnel were called to the
scene.
A Caltrans crew joined a Hazmat unit at the scene to clean up diesel fuel and debris from the middle lanes of the freeway, the CHP said.
The crash closed all lanes of the eastbound freeway at Roxford and is slated to be closed for several hours.
