HEMET, Calif. (KABC) -- The leaders of a Hemet religious group have been arrested in connection with the disappearance of a Nashville man who was last seen more than two years ago.

Emilio Salem Ghanem was reported missing in May 2023 after visiting a Starbucks in Redlands.

Darryl Muzic Martin, 57, and his wife, Shelly Bailey "Kat" Martin, 62, were arrested earlier this month on illegal weapons charges after police served a search warrant at the Laguna Hills Lodge in Laguna Hills.

Ghanem had been a member of "His Way Spirit Led Assemblies," a religious organization based in Hemet that was led by the Martins, according to police.

Investigators found what was described as "electronic devices" during the Laguna Hills search, but further details weren't immediately released.

A week before that, Rudy Franco Moreno, 43, and Kelvin Lee Mackey, 58, were also arrested on charges related to felons in possession of firearms after investigators searched homes in Hemet and Anza.

During that investigation, detectives recovered several illegal firearms, including "converted fully automatic rifles, short-barreled rifles and unserialized 'ghost guns' along with electronic devices and other digital evidence," according to police.

Who is Emilio Salem Ghanem?

According to investigators, Ghanem had been living in Nashville but returned to Southern California on business.

He left "His Way Spirit Led Assemblies" shortly before his disappearance.

Ghanem also worked for Fullshield, Inc., a pest control business owned and operated by the religious group. The business now operates under the name "Maxguard."

Meantime, Redlands detectives are working with the Claremont Police Department after learning another member of the same religious group was reported missing in 2019.

The Redlands Police Department previously confirmed that investigators are treating Ghanem's disappearance as a potential homicide.

Anyone with information about Ghanem, his disappearance or his whereabouts is urged to contact the Redlands Police Detective Bureau at (909) 551-4424 or by email at missingperson_emilio@redlandspolice.org.
