AZUSA, Calif. (KABC) -- The Azusa Police Department released body camera video in the case of a man found dead in an unlocked out-of-service patrol car outside of the Azusa police station.

The body camera footage, which is from March 20 and was shared with Eyewitness News on Tuesday, captures officers speaking with Eric Valencia during his arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence and child endangerment.

In the video, an officer tells Valencia, "You seem a little nervous ..." to which Valencia responds "This is my first time ... my boys ... you know, I get scared for them."

Police previously released surveillance video from March 23 that shows Valencia just as he was released from jail, wandering up to an Azusa PD patrol car parked outside the station.

Several days later, on March 26, video shows an officer discovering Valencia in the backseat of the cruiser. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene minutes later.

Valencia's family had been calling for the release of the police body camera footage. Azusa police say Valencia's cause of death is still under investigation by the medical examiner.

The department has hired an independent investigator to review the circumstances surrounding Valencia's death and has acknowledged that the patrol vehicle should have been secured.
