COMPTON, Calif. (KABC) -- A Compton neighborhood was forced to evacuate for several hours Thursday after deputies got a call about a possible explosive device found inside a home.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said they received the call shortly before 1:30 p.m. from a person claiming to have found a possible explosive device in the attic of the home.

Deputies responded to the 800 block of North Chester Avenue and issued an evacuation order, as a safety precaution, for homes within a two-block radius while they worked to determine if the device was dangerous.

The LASD Sheriff's Arson Explosive Details responded to the scene.

Fortunately, the military ordnance was found to be non-explosive and evacuations were lifted just before 6 p.m. Authorities did not provide a description of the ordnance.

The sheriff's department said members from the Camp Pendleton Explosive Detail came and picked up the ordnance.
