Explosion sparks fire in Downtown Los Angeles apartment building

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- An explosion involving a propane tank and a tar pot sparked a fire in an apartment building in Downtown Los Angeles on Thursday.

The Los Angeles Fire Department said the blast occurred at the five-story apartment building located at 130 S. Hewitt St. at about 2:45 p.m.

The explosion happened during a roofing operation as the building is under construction, according to fire officials.

Smoke billowed from the building in Little Tokyo as firefighters knocked down the blaze. No one was injured, according to officials.
