After months of uncertainty and struggling to begin their recovery, the Pazmino Family is moving into a new apartment, new furnishings included.
The organization that helped them is the legacy of the late actor Paul Walker, who founded it 15 years ago.
"Walked into Reach Out Worldwide," said Annemarie Pazmino. "I didn't know what the store was, and he was like, 'Are you an Eaton survivor?' and I said, 'Yes.'"
Reach Out Worldwide is a disaster relief organization founded by the late actor. The organization has serviced more than 2,000 families since the Eaton and Palisades fires. Now, with IKEA, they're completely furnishing the Pazminos' new home.
"They wanted to go wall-to-wall for a family before the holidays. So today, we get to move in a family who had lost everything," said John Brotherton, an ambassador for Reach Out Worldwide. "All the way from their kitchen supplies, to the art on the wall, to the beds, to the sofas, to the Christmas decorations."
"I mean, our bed is on the floor right now, so to have an actual bed, that's nice," said Kevin Pazmino. "We're like, saving everything we can to rebuild, so this is amazing."
On the Reach Out Worldwide website, families register can for aid, and when it's time for their appointment, a care basket is curated for them so that they get the specific things they need, and not getting things they don't -- anything from toiletries to furniture.
"It's been awful, it continues to be awful, but that's why moments like this, they feel so surreal," said Annemarie Pazmino. "There's so many people that need, that just need the help, and it feels, I think I feel spoiled, and I feel guilty for that, even though I know we need it."
The Pazminos are planning to rebuild their home in Altadena, and say it's been a struggle financially.
