WESTMINSTER, Calif. (KABC) -- An Orange County family is desperately searching for a loved one who was last seen heading out to buy an ATV from someone he found online.

Brittany Arnold and her sister, Cortney, have been trying to call their father's cellphone, but it goes to an automated message. The two women are desperate to find their 53-year-old father, Pat Arnold, who disappeared Monday night after telling his daughter he planned to buy a quad.

Arnold's family says they don't know what online site he visited. Police are investigating after the daughters filed a missing persons report.

"I'm afraid that someone he met with for the quad -- he had cash on him -- they decided to rob him. I'm not sure," said Brittany Arnold.

The Westminster resident retired from his job as a tugboat captain in 2009 to care for his father and mother. His father passed away last year. Last month, he lost his mother to lung cancer. His family says he went camping for a week right after but kept in touch with his family regularly.

His family says that he left behind items he would normally take with him if he was going away for more than a day. He also had responsibilities at home, including helping his daughter with her twin 5-year-old daughters. His family says he would never just leave them behind.

Arnold is 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighing about 175 pounds. His family says he has one eye that does not open all the way. He drives a green 1997 Ford Econoline van with the California license plate 5YEV659.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts was asked to contact Orange County Crime Stoppers at (855) TIP-OCCS.
