Details are limited, but an FBI spokesperson confirmed the agency served federal search warrants downtown and that the Los Angeles Police Department assisted in the investigation.
Video from AIR7 showed an LAPD helicopter landing on the helipad of the Apex building on W 9th Street.
FBI agents, armed and dressed in tactical gear, were seen sitting on the edge of the helicopter before exiting the helipad and heading downstairs. Plainclothes agents were also visible outside the building.
Two concierges in the Apex lobby said the FBI arrived Tuesday morning and told building staff they had a search warrant. According to the concierges, agents were accompanied by members of the fire department, who helped take over operation of the elevators during the search.
The concierges said they did not know which floors agents accessed. It was not immediately known whether anyone was taken into custody or whether any items were seized.
According to the concierges, FBI agents remained at the building for about an hour before leaving.
The FBI also simultaneously served a search warrant at 1010 Wilshire. A person at the front desk said agents could be seen on surveillance cameras using the elevators but did not know which floors or units were being targeted.
