Breakfast is served, and this week we checked out R & R Breakfast Spot in Moreno Valley, rooted in family and served with soul.
"Just woke up one day and said I wanted to own a restaurant after being in corporate America maybe about 20 years. And I think God led me here," owner Rhonda Dennis said.
The R & R comes from Rhonda and her husband Rodney, and the table markers are named after their kids.
Serving all your traditional favorites, large platters for two are dished out with your pick of proteins and sides.
The Riverside community has come to expect breakfast with a unique twist here at R & R, like with the catfish and shrimp po'boys.
"We definitely put our soul into our food," Dennis said. "We are very big on presentation, on recipes."
Big shrimp, beef sausage, onions and bell peppers over bestselling creamy grits had me excited to return for another meal.
"It's really hard for Black-owned businesses for some reason in the Inland Empire not just to exist, but to sustain," Dennis said. "So, when we got here to Moreno Valley, they had open arms for us."
Dennis is excited to welcome champagne, soju, wine and beer to the beverage menu.
Customers also told me the cucumber mimosas are a must-try.
"Everyone in this community, it has been awesome," Dennis said. "That makes my heart warm. That's why I do this. It is not for the profit margin because that's small. It's definitely because of the love that you feel from people."
R & R Breakfast Spot is open seven days a week from 8 to 3 p.m.
The restaurant is located at 24667 Sunnymead Blvd., in Moreno Valley.
