SHERMAN OAKS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Police are investigating an attempted burglary reported overnight in Sherman Oaks, the latest incident in a string of crimes targeting San Fernando Valley homes.

Officers responded to the home on Noble Avenue near the 405 Freeway and Ventura Boulevard.

The LAPD's Van Nuys Division said the homeowner reported seeing two people wearing hoodies at her backdoor. The suspects escaped before officers arrived, and no arrests have been made, according to investigators.

The attempted break-in comes as city and police leaders address a recent increase in burglaries across the San Fernando Valley. Authorities said efforts to curb the crimes include adding high-visibility patrols, specialized units, and mounted and air patrols.

"We all have zero tolerance for what has happened and for what is happening in the Valley in terms of the burglaries," Bass said at a press conference on Monday. "It reminds of us of a series of burglaries that we saw in Encino last year, but because we acted quickly, because the department acted quickly and decisively and took down the crew that was responsible and today, we are once again surging resources and acting strategically to stop these latest burglaries and apprehend the perpetrators."

LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell said the department is working within its limits to address the problem.

"We at the LAPD will do what we've always done to perform more with less, despite budget constraints and resource challenges," he said. "We're actively combating, tracking and arresting these burglary crews with all of our energy and resources."
