Los Angeles Councilwoman Eunisses Hernandez, who represents District 1, held a press conference Thursday at Lacy Street Neighborhood Park.
She said the move is a part of a $6.3 million initiative aimed at moving individuals experiencing homelessness along a four-mile stretch of the 110 Freeway indoors.
According to her office, the program is funded by the state's Encampment Resolution Fund.
"Last week, 27 lives were changed here, and this is only the beginning," she said. "We're proving that when you meet people with care and love instead of cruelty, when we collaborate across agencies and communities and different levels of government, we can build a city that works for everyone."
City crews are now working to revitalize the park.
According to Hernandez's office, the effort involved the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA), Caltrans, LA Sanitation, and service providers like LA Global Care and the USC Street Medicine Team.
