LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Jurors have reached a verdict in the trial of Gene Atkins, who is charged with murder in the death of a Trader Joe's employee killed by a police bullet during a shootout in Silver Lake.

Jurors reached their decision, and the verdict is expected to be read Tuesday afternoon. Atkins faces charges stemming from a 2018 police pursuit and shootout that led to the death of Melyda Corado.

Corado was struck by a Los Angeles Police Department bullet, but prosecutors argue Atkins' actions directly triggered her death.

This is a developing story. This article will continue to be updated as more information becomes available.
