LOS ANGELES -- Indie film festival Dances With Films is often a great place for young filmmakers to get noticed. And that brings us to a story in Los Angeles that you could say is decades in the making.

Two LA kids, Mayan Lopez and Jordan Rowe, became friends in kindergarten. Now, 25 years later, they've teamed up for a new movie called "Hamilton House."

The film tells the story of some young actors who live together. They decide they must create a haunted house in their apartment for Halloween, hoping it gets the attention of their new neighbor: a big name horror film director.

Rowe is the man behind the movie with his longtime friend, Lopez, on board as executive producer.

They have a long history together.

"I have known Jordan since elementary school," Lopez said. "We have gone through elementary and high school together and I think I've always admired Jordan's eye. And it's something that we have both connected with. And so when Jordan approached me and wanted me to me executive produce 'Hamilton House,' it was just like, 'Of course. Of course.' It's just a partnership that always has been there."

Lopez was a producer on her sitcom, "Lopez vs. Lopez." And Jordan? Well, he took on plenty of jobs for this movie, which was shot on a very low budget.

"We shot in friends' apartments," Rowe said, adding, "I, myself, wore five different hats. I wrote, directed, edited, and did the music and was a producer on it."

This truly was a group effort.

"Some of the actors did some crew roles as well," Rowe said. "So, truly, we made the dollar go further by just doing everything we could by any means necessary."

Rowe has had his eye on making movies since before he dressed up as Steven Spielberg for Halloween. Lopez was ready for her close-up at a very young age. Now, these longtime pals are sharing something special.

"You have to find those people or they find you," Lopez said. "And I got to find him in kindergarten."

Rowe added, "So much of what she'd done for us and is continuing to do is getting the movie outside of the five people who made it in New York."

"Hamilton House" is part of this year's "Dances With Films" film festival, which is now in its 29th year. The fest's goal is to champion the independent film scene.

You can attend the world premiere of "Hamilton House" on Saturday, June 27 at 1:15 p.m. at the TCL Chinese 6 Theatre in Hollywood.
