The King Fire broke out just after 1 a.m. Thursday and grew to nearly 500 acres in just a few hours acres along the 5 Freeway between Gorman and Pyramid Lake, according to the Angeles National Forest.
By Friday, the blaze had charred 577 acres with 40% containment.
Firefighters were forced to shut down both sides of the freeway temporarily as flames got dangerously close to the roadway. All lanes have since reopened but drivers are advised to exercise caution in the area.
Evacuation warnings were issued for those living in Hungry Valley, in the area east of Caswell. A shelter in place order was also put in place for areas east of the 5 Freeway and south of Highway 138. All orders have since been lifted.
Video from the fire zone showed some damaged vehicles and storage buildings. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
