LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- From hero to heartbreak, Korean superstar Son Heung-Min nearly saved the day in his home debut for Los Angeles Football Club. Instead, his potential game-tying shot went off the crossbar in the 77th minute.

LAFC fell to San Diego in the end, losing 2-1.

Son drew a sold-out crowd for his first game in front of home fans almost one month after he joined the team in a record transfer deal.

Despite the loss, there was a lot of stadium at BMO Stadium for Son's debut sporting the black and gold at home for the first time.

Sunday night's game has been sold out for weeks, with the demand for tickets and prices skyrocketing. Tickets for his first home game were selling for more than $200, which is double the price of an average LAFC ticket.

The stadium's new standing-room-only section was even sold out.

Countless fans were spotted wearing Son's jersey, which has become the nation's top-selling jersey.

On Wednesday, Son got a big welcome to Los Angeles from the Dodgers when he threw out the first pitch at the Dodgers-Reds game.
