LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- All lanes of the 101 Freeway in downtown Los Angeles reopened Friday morning an hour after both directions were shut down due to a "behavioral emergency", authorities said.

The incident began around 7 a.m. Friday on the north Main Street overpass above the 101 Freeway.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, there was "a female patient on the Main St x 101 Fwy overpass experiencing a behavioral emergency".

All lanes reopened around 8 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

LAFD said "The patient is now safely with LAPD and LAFD. Firefighter/paramedics will conduct an assessment".

Air7 was over the scene around 7:40 a.m. as traffic was diverted off the freeway. Traffic was backed up for miles on the 101 as a result of the closure.

No further details were immediately available.
