"We just couldn't abide by that. One because of the comments made in a manner which negatively affected our communities, but two it was also a realization that it would have negatively affected our ability to do some fundraising and find sponsors," said Alvaro Cortes, executive director of "Beyond the Bell."

Legendary basketball star Kareen Abdul-Jabbar is a big supporter of "Beyond the Bell," which provides before and after-school academic and recreational programs to 160,000 students every day.
Jabbar agrees with the district's decision to pull out.
In a letter, an official at Trump's golf club said the LAUSD's $7,500 deposit for the event will not be returned.
"To take $7,500 from us doesn't seem like a lot to some people, but for us it's a lot of money."
