LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A liquid nitrogen tank sprung a leak outside a science building on the USC campus on Thursday, prompting a response from hazardous-materials crews.

Los Angeles Fire Department crews arrived and secured the leak, which was reported around noon at the Frank R. Seaver Science Center at 920 Bloom Walk.

No injuries were reported, and USC officials said there was no immediate danger. However, people were advised to avoid the area as a precaution.

Liquid nitrogen is used as a cooling and freezing agent in many laboratory applications.
