The driver lost control while attempting to exit the 5 Freeway and struck a guardrail, then flipped over multiple times, shredding the 2024 Honda CRV into pieces before it slammed into the pillar of an overpass at the 138.
The chase started around 2 p.m. in the Sylmar area as LAPD officers began pursuing a stolen 2024 Honda CRV.

The driver, believed to be a woman around 30 years old, heading at speeds exceeding 100 mph into the Santa Clarita area, driving on the 14 Freeway and exiting onto surface streets in the Newhall area.

Eventually she got onto the northbound 5 Freeway and headed north into the Antelope Valley, swerving in lanes, even hitting construction barrels in lanes in her effort to keep away from pursuing authorities as the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department took over the chase through the Grapevine.
Eventually she switched over to the other side of the freeway and began heading south back down toward Los Angeles.
The front right fender and bumper appeared to be damaged as she drove prior to losing control in the Gorman area and slamming into the pillar of the 138 overpass.
The I-5 southbound transition to the 138 remained closed for hours as authorities investigated the crash and attempted to extricate and identify the woman. It was expected to remain closed until at least 1 a.m. Thursday.
