Local union janitors approve new contract, avoid strike

Tuesday, May 3, 2016
LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Union janitors in Los Angeles and Orange counties have approved a new contract, meaning there will be no strike.

This comes just days after a big march in downtown Los Angeles calling for a new deal. The contract also includes Bay Area janitors.

According to the Service Employees International Union, the contract includes a wage increase and new protocols to combat sexual harassment and assault.

The union president said female janitors face increased risk because they often work alone, at night, in big empty buildings.
