This week, we're taking a trip to Lonzo's Restaurant in Culver City, which celebrates the flavors of Peru.
"Peruvian cuisine is so special because it's a mix of different cultures," co-owner Miriam Ramirez said.
You've probably heard of ceviche. It's the national dish of the South American country, combining cold, fresh seafood.
But as fall temperatures approach, if you're searching for something sizzling hot, Lonzo's has plenty on the menu, like the lomo saltado.
The dish carries Japanese influence, featuring marinated steak, tomatoes, onions and French fries.
Lonzo's has pastas, potatoes and arroz con mariscos, a Peruvian paella combining rice and seafood, packing tons of flavor.
Jose and Miriam Ramirez opened Lonzo's in 2005, but initially only served baked goods and breakfast.
After a surprise feature in the LA Times, business took off.
"I remember that day," Miriam Ramirez said. "I came and with my team, Jose, we hugged each other. We said, 'Wow, this is a good start.'"
The husband and wife team decided to expand their menu, their hours and their seating.
"I feel great. I feel so proud for Lonzo's and all we made. I feel so proud of all my people....my community and I'm so happy," Jose Ramirez said.
Miriam said she loves being involved in their Culver City community and sharing her Peruvian roots through food.
Lonzo's Restaurant is open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Their address is 10804 Washington Blvd., in Culver City.
