NEWHALL, Calif. (KABC) -- A man was taken into custody Thursday after an hourslong chase through the Santa Clarita Valley. Authorities say he is linked to a deadly shooting in Pomona.

According to the Pomona Police Department, officers responded earlier in the day to the 100 block of E. Monterey Avenue for reports of a shooting.

When they arrived, they found a man and a woman with gunshot wounds. Despite lifesaving measures, both died at the scene.

The suspect-identified as 48-year-old Robert Galtman-was taken into custody by the California Highway Patrol.

At one point during the chase, the suspect made a U-turn and began traveling southbound on the 5 Freeway in the Newhall area before transitioning onto surface streets in the Castaic area, then onto Lake Hughes Road.

The driver ran off the road for a few seconds and threw several objects out of the window.

The suspect was also seen recklessly swerving on Lakes Hughes Road, occasionally crossing the double yellow lines.

Eventually, the front tire on the driver's side was damaged.

The driver then took to the surface streets near Elizabeth Lake Road and Lookabout Road in the Elizabeth Lake area, continuing to elude law enforcement into Lancaster. Officers executed a PIT maneuver near 20th Street West and West Avenue K, where the suspect's vehicle was stopped and he was taken into custody.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is being asked to contact the Pomona Police Department Detective Bureau at 909-620-2085.
