Now, they're trying to pick up the pieces and find a way to pay for his funeral.
There is now a growing memorial in Baldwin Park for 29-year-old Jorge Chavez.
Chavez was hit on Friday morning while riding his motorcycle through the intersection of Baldwin Park Boulevard and Los Angeles Street. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
His family has set up a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral costs.
They told Eyewitness News he was a beloved uncle and a hard-working UPS worker.
"When we found out the news, we were in a very painful situation. We didn't believe it," Chavez's aunt, Gloria Reyes, said in Spanish. "We never would've thought he wouldn't be with us. This is like a nightmare."
"We'll never forget Jorge, because he was a guy full of love and was so loved. His whole family loved him. With such a big loss like this, the family is broken, knowing we'll never see him again. We'll hold onto his memory. We'll remember him the rest of our lives," Reyes added.
Baldwin Park police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or who might have video to please contact them.
