BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (KABC) -- Perfect for Beverly Hills: a splashy unveiling of the updated Mercedes-Maybach GLS, and a splashy debut of a new space, the Mercedes-Benz Studio Los Angeles.

"We're opening a new home for Mercedes-Benz in Los Angeles. One designed to bring people together through experiences, conversation, and discovery," said Melody Lee, chief marketing officer at Mercedes-Benz USA during the grand opening celebration.

The invite-only official debut of vehicle and venue included a live performance by Suki Waterhouse, who performed for the dozens of VIP guests.

The studio is now open to the public in the heart of Beverly Hills' shopping district.

This will be a place for the brand to show off what's new, as well as brand heritage, and let customers configure how they'd like their new Mercedes or Maybach to be built.

It's like having a suit or gown custom tailored to your liking.

"A lot of our cars are actually going through the 'Manufaktur' process, where customers individually choose what they want in their car in terms of interior color and also exterior color," said Markus Bauer, the global head of Mercedes-Maybach.

Also getting some updates -- the other big Maybach, the S 680, an even more luxurious variation of the S-Class sedan with a starting price of $247,000.

It's just as nice to ride in the back as it is to drive, attracting celebrities, athletes, and others who want ultimate luxury but want to stay with the Mercedes family rather than try something from other high-end auto brands.

When it comes to mechanical luxury, there's nothing quite as smooth and refined as a V12 engine. You don't find many of them these days, but you can still get one in the Maybach S-Class, specifically the S 680.

You have to experience a V12 to appreciate it, especially when we're inundated these days with a trend of smaller engines, or electric power.

"I always compare it to watches, you know? Somewhat similar to having an automatic watch or mechanical watch," said Bauer.

Once you've chosen any Mercedes-Benz, especially a Maybach, visit a dealer then come to Beverly Hills and the studio's private second floor.

There, you'll see the choices of paint, leather, trim panels, even the color of the stitching for the seats. A virtual configurator gets you started, then samples you can see, touch, and even take outside into the natural light.

And you don't have to be a celebrity with a big car budget to check this place out. It's open Wednesday through Sunday, and is near all the other name brands in the neighborhood.

Maybe treat yourself to some merch, while you look longingly at a "hopefully some day" ride.
