Mobile robotic microfactory is building fire-resistant homes in Palisades Fire burn zone

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. (KABC) -- As efforts to rebuild in the Palisades Fire burn zone continue, a first-of-its kind mobile robotic microfactory is constructing fire-resistant homes in the area.

"With this system, we can decrease 70 percent of the cost associated with the building of frame," said Sasha Jokic, founder and CEO of Cosmic Buildings. "The house itself is 30 percent cheaper and it's delivered three times faster than conventional methods."

A 2,000-square-foot home can be framed in just 10 days and fully completed in just four-to-six months.

For fire victims like Aaron George and his family, who lost their new home in the Pacific Palisades before they could even move in, the time and cost savings of the cutting-edge machine couldn't be beat.

"We're upgrading in the process because we are getting some savings by working with Cosmic," George said. "I would say we're probably saving at least about 25 to 30 percent."

The homes, which are designed by the owners and built by robots, are fully customizable and better for the environment.

"These factories are mobile, low-cost and autonomous," Jokic said in an interview with ABC7. "We're really scaling this here in L.A. So we're envisioning very soon to have multiple units that really can build thousands of homes in these areas."

Cosmic Building says it will donate one home for every 10 they rebuild -- helping shape the future as fire-ravaged communities rise from the ashes.

Studies tie unrecognized deaths to LA fires

"Our hope is that it comes back bigger and better than it was before," George said, "and, yeah, it'll be a great place for us to live in the future."

Cosmic 's first two homes -- one in the Eaton Fire burn zone and one in the Palisades -- are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
