Tanya Perry was crossing the street in a marked crosswalk Sunday at Colorado Boulevard and the 2 Freeway when she was struck by a car, according to police.
A vigil was held there for her Tuesday night.
Perry's mother says she was devoted to her three children and dedicated to her job as a Metro bus operator.
"She was loved by everybody," said Mary Smith. "All these people coming up to me, all the Metro workers, and they're just telling me 'your daughter was a beautiful soul'."
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help her family.
Metro issued a statement, which reads in part: "Metro extends its deepest sympathies to the operator's family, friends and colleagues. Grief counseling is being made available on-site for the operator's coworkers."
Meanwhile, a search is ongoing for the driver who killed Perry and took off.
