BUENA PARK, Calif. (KABC) -- Twenty-two people were stuck in the air on a Knott's Berry Farm ride for more than two hours after it malfunctioned Monday.

Park mechanics were finally able to crank the ride down to the ground and let people off without serious injury, though some riders were taken from the scene in wheelchairs and others were visibly limping.

According to a Knott's Berry Farm spokesperson, two female guests were transported to the hospital for further evaluation "out of an abundance of caution." Their condition was not immediately known.

"At approximately 2:00 pm, the Sol Spin ride experienced technical difficulties causing the ride to stop mid cycle," a statement from Knott's Berry Farm read. "We followed the ride manufacturer's and Knott's emergency procedures to safely evacuate the 22 guests by 4:30."

The ride was stuck in a horizontal position, with some riders seen leaning sideways. None appeared to be hanging upside down.

There was no information immediately available on what caused the ride to come to a halt.

AIR7 was over the scene as rescue efforts were underway. At one point, a crane hoisted mechanics to the side of the ride to help get it moving.

By around 4:30 p.m., the mechanics were able to crank the Sol Spin down to the ground and release riders.

The Sol Spin ride is located in the Fiesta Village area of Knott's Berry Farm. It is a high-speed spinning ride that rotates in three directions at once.
