SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Police officers shot and injured an allegedly armed burglary suspect in South Los Angeles early Friday morning.

The shooting happened shortly before 5 a.m. near 76th Street and Normandie, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Responding officers heard screaming inside a home and forced their way.

That's where they say they found the suspect armed with a knife, and a victim.

When the suspect did not listen to commands, officers say they used two less lethal rounds to no effect.

The LAPD says officers fired when the suspect approached the victim, who suffered an injury to their hand.

The suspect was struck by gunfire and taken to the hospital in critical condition.

No other injuries were reported.
