Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner released the name of Guadalupe Alvarez Salgado after she was pronounced deceased.
The deadly crash happened around 8 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Towne and Lexington avenues, according to the Pomona Police Department.
The mother and her two daughters were returning home from a store and were crossing the intersection at the time of the incident, according to friend who lives with the family. Mireya Alvarez and her younger sister, known as "Lupita" by loved ones, were walking just ahead of their mother when they were struck by the vehicle, the friend said.
Responding officers found two pedestrians lying in the roadway with severe injuries. The 19-year-old victim was transported to a hospital and is expected to survive, but first responders were unable to save the child.
The driver who hit them remained at the crash site, which was just steps away from the victims' home. The driver cooperated with the investigation, police said. No arrests were made.
The sisters' mother and father were at the hospital with Mireya. A candlelight vigil was held Wednesday evening.
A GoFundMe page has been established to help the victims' family.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
