Death investigation underway after man stabbed, mauled by dogs in San Bernardino

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (KABC) -- One person died after being stabbed and then mauled by several dogs in San Bernardino, triggering a death investigation, authorities said.

The deadly incident happened Sunday near the playground area at Perris Hill Park, according to the San Bernardino Police Department. Officers responded to the scene around 5:20 p.m. and found a man suffering from suspected stab wounds and dog bites.

The victim, who authorities said was a homeless individual, was taken to the hospital but did not survive. It's not clear whether by the stabbing or mauling.

Police could not provide information on a suspect in the stabbing, nor could they say where the dogs came from.

Animal control officials told Eyewitness News that a total of 11 dogs were confiscated and quarantined.
