What the demonstrators were protesting against overnight was not confirmed, but they gathered outside the federal Metropolitan Detention Center, in the area of Alameda Street between Temple and Aliso streets.
The facility itself has been at the center of controversy for its alleged treatment of detainees following federal immigration raids across Southern California. Many say the conditions are inhumane and cruel.
Protesters clash with National Guard, police officers outside downtown LA detention center
The Los Angeles Police Department says officers responded Thursday night as the large group formed to protest outside the detention center.
No one was arrested or detained Thursday.
Police also did not report any injuries. However, video from the scene shows an ambulance driving away from the detention center as protesters chased after it. It's not known who or what was inside.
The group eventually dispersed.
This comes after protesters clashed with police outside the facility Wednesday night. One person was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon that night.
