Residential building in South LA erupts in flames, leading to dramatic rescue

SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- At least one resident was rescued from a residential building that erupted in flames in South Los Angeles overnight.

The fire broke out at a two-story complex near Adams Boulevard and Maple Avenue around 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Video from the scene showed people outside of the building in distress as firefighters worked to combat the flames billowing out from the second floor, using a chainsaw to ventilate the roof.

Firefighters also used a ladder to help a man down from a second floor balcony of the building before the fire was extinguished.

At least one person was taken from the scene in an ambulance and others were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
