KOREATOWN, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The RV driver in a Koreatown crash that left a 9-year-old boy dead and his brother injured has been charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence.

Jimmy Pittman, 46, is charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI with a special allegation of great bodily injury.

The crash happened last week near the intersection of South New Hampshire Avenue and 4th Street. Nadir Gavarrete and his older brother were riding an e-scooter when they were struck by an RV driven by Pittman, prosecutors allege.

Nadir died at the scene and his 19-year-old brother, Carlos Gavarrete, was seriously injured. He remains hospitalized in stable condition.

Pittman is due back in court next week for a preliminary hearing.

Over the weekend, community members came out to the growing makeshift memorial of flowers and balloons to show their support for the grieving family.

The family has set up a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral expenses for Nadir and his brother's medical bills.
