Shepard Fairey arrested at LAX due to warrant out of Detroit

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Shepard Fairey, the street artist known for his Barack Obama "Hope" poster, was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport due to a warrant out of Detroit, airport police said on Monday.

The 45-year-old was arrested at LAX on July 6. Police say he was passing through customs when screeners noticed an outstanding warrant for his arrest issued in Detroit.

Fairey was then booked on a felony fugitive warrant charge.

The street artist was wanted on two counts of malicious destruction of property, but Detroit police declined to extradite him.
