LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The superintendent of the Centinela Valley Union High School District has been fired after it was revealed that his pay was higher that President Barack Obama.

The board voted 5-0 to fire Jose Fernandez during a meeting on Tuesday night.

The Daily Breeze reported in February that Fernandez's annual salary exceeded $674,000. An investigation was launched in April, and Fernandez was placed on leave.

Fernandez oversaw three high schools in the suburbs of Hawthorne and Lawndale.
