Special graduation held for injured IE teen

Saturday, May 31, 2014
Like most high school graduations, there were plenty of balloons, friends and family. But this ceremony was different. It was held at a hospital.

Madison Perea, 19, is recovering from a brain hemorrhage at Loma Linda University Medical Center. She couldn't make her actual graduation, so friends, family members, teachers and the principal brought the ceremony to her.

"Oak Hills High School did not want Madison to feel cheated in any way or left out because of what happened," the principal said at her graduation.

Still unable speak, her tears and her smile said everything. Perea has a 4.0 GPA and is a three-time state cheer champion.

"It really makes me feel good to know she has that support," friend Harlan Champoux said at the ceremony. "Everybody, all of her friends, are here. It's really cool."
