Sugar the Surfing Dog, beloved pup in SoCal surf community, dies following cancer battle

She became famous in the surfing community, earning the title of the first animal ever inducted into the Surfers' Hall of Fame.

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- Sugar, a beloved Southern California surf dog and five-time World Dog Surf Champion, died Monday morning, her owner told Eyewitness News. She was 16.

Earlier this month, Sugar rode what would be her final wave in Huntington Beach. The pup had been battling cancer.

Sugar became a local legend in the surfing community, earning the title of the first animal ever inducted into the Surfers' Hall of Fame.

She is remembered by fans and fellow surfers for her years on the waves and her role in surf culture.
