CORONA, Calif. (KABC) -- Police shot and killed a man allegedly armed with a metal tire iron outside an Applebee's restaurant in Corona early Tuesday.

Dispatchers received a call around 12:18 a.m. about a man swinging a crowbar at vehicles near a shopping center at McKinley Street and Promenade Avenue, according to the Corona Police Department.

When officers arrived, they found the man armed with a metal tire iron.

"The subject refused multiple commands to drop his weapon and an officer involved shooting subsequently occurred," said the police department in a press release. "The subject was struck by gunfire and despite life saving measures he was pronounced deceased at the scene."

Footage of the confrontation captures the sound of multiple gunshots being fired. A second volley of gunfire erupts as the man appears to charge officers, ending the confrontation.

Investigators say before the shooting, the suspect went on a violent rampage through the shopping center. A man, who didn't want to be identified, said the suspect tried to attack him.

Surveillance video shows the suspect trying to smash the victim's car windows, one of several vehicles targeted.

Police say the suspect also rammed his own car into another victim's vehicle - one belonging to an Applebee's employee.

The suspect's identity has not been released.

Riverside County Sheriff's Force Investigations Detail and the DA's office are investigating the police shooting.
