It all unfolded when a homeowner near Las Colinas and Ridgeview called police around 7 p.m. Wednesday after making the startling discovery.
The Los Angeles Police Department says it was a military-style device that resembled a grenade, but additional details about the object were not provided. It's unclear how it got there.
Nearby residents in the area were evacuated for about three hours while the bomb squad disposed of the device.
The scene was eventually cleared by 10:30 p.m. No one was injured.
