PACOIMA, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A burglary suspect who was barricaded inside a Pacoima home for more than six hours was taken into custody Thursday morning.

Officers responded to a call of a burglary in progress on Pinney Street just after 2:30 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The suspect allegedly broke into one home in the area and then fled into another nearby home, where there were people inside. The residents managed to get away unharmed, and the suspect stood inside.

That prompted a large response from police who surrounded the home. AIR7 was over the scene where there were several patrol vehicles around the property.

After hours of trying to get him to come out, police deployed tear gas - but the house caught fire.

Firefighters quickly put out the fire before the suspect was arrested and placed in an ambulance.
