The deadly crash happened at about 12:40 a.m. Sunday on Orange Street and South Street, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

According to police, the teen, who was not identified, was on a scooter on the roadway when he was struck by a 2012 Cadillac SRX driving northbound on Orange Avenue, which then fled the scene. Soon after, the female driver crashed into a nearby building located at 6100 Orange Avenue.
The suspect then fled on foot but returned to the scene a short time later and was taken into custody, police said.
The victim received life-saving measures on scene before being rushed to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.
The driver was identified as 35-year-old Karen Mativa, of Compton. She was booked for driving under the influence, hit-and-run resulting in death or injury, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and assault with a deadly weapon with force, according to authorities. Her bail was set at $130,000.

Police say speed and impaired driving are being investigated as contributing factors in the deadly crash.
