LAKE FOREST, CALIF. (KABC) -- Newly released videos show Orange County deputies shooting and wounding a man armed with a gun and a knife during confrontation on a residential street in Lake Forest, authorities said.

The footage, made public on Monday, stems from an incident that occurred around 2:30 a.m. on April 24.

According to the Orange County Sheriff's Department, the sequence of events began when the suspect arrived at an ex-girlfriend's house holding a gun in his hand, as seen on doorbell-camera surveillance video.

"When I opened the door, he went to pull it out and I pushed him back, slammed the door and locked the door," a 911 caller said, according to an audio recording.

The suspect fled from the home in a car but was spotted by deputies, prompting a high-speed chase captured on dashboard-camera video.

The footage shows the man suddenly pulling over in and emerging from the vehicle the 21000 block of Rimgate Drive, just south of Lake Forest Drive.

"The suspect was holding a gun when he got out of the car," sheriff's Sgt. Lizbeth Gwisdall said in a video statement. "He advanced toward the first patrol unit's driver-side door. The deputy opened their door and fired their gun at the suspect."

A second patrol unit, a two-person training team, both fired their guns at the suspect, Gwisdall said.

The man was struck by gunfire, and the deputies immediately rendered medical aid, authorities said. He was transported to a hospital after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds and is expected to survive. His name has not been released.

No deputies were injured in the confrontation.
