BOYLE HEIGHTS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Firefighters rushed to rescue a woman who fell about 40 feet from a bridge into the L.A. River on Saturday.

The fall was reported at 1:24 p.m. Saturday at 2750 E. Washington Blvd., east of Soto Street, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Jamie Stewart.

"LAFD Air Operations is performing a hoisting operation and will be transporting the patient for further medical care at a local hospital," Stewart said.

Video from the Citizen App shows LAFD Air Operations hoisting the woman up to a helicopter for transport to a nearby hospital.

Paramedics were lowered down to the patient to evaluate her condition before transport, he said. LAFD noted that the woman was not in the water when they rescued her.

The Los Angeles Police Department and Department of Transportation were summoned for traffic control, Stewart said.

The woman's condition was not immediately available. It was not clear how she came to fall from the bridge.
